I've been told and see it written here that Verizon is the best across the country. But I hear that AT&T works better in those fringe areas because they are on the "A" system. Anyone know if that's so and is the diference in "A" or "B" make that much difference. Can't seem to find anything simple now days.

Dan,

I'm in the engineering side of the cellular business and have been so for about 15 years, so maybe I can be of service. There is no difference between the "A" and "B" sides to speak of, mearly a small change in frequency. I would recommend that you purchase a hands free kit with an external antenna mounted upon a steel ground plate on the top of your motorhome. As far as carriers are concerned, AT&T & Verizon should fit the bill. Good luck.

Dan,
So the difference in A and B isn't the carriers themselves but just frequencies? Are the frequencies then assigned to like AT&T or Verison and then they don't operate on each others frequencies? I know of a tower closeby and I have bad service. It must be a tower outside my carrier. Why then don't they cooperate with each other?

I know of one company that provides nationwide/worldwide phone service ---- Globalstar. It is a satellite phone service and will work anywhere (period). It is more expensive than other "cell" phone companies, but if reliability and the need to stay in contact is what your after, then this is the phone service for you...

Jeff: You can find the information by going to www.globalstar.com. I don't know of another company that can provide the same type of service that Globalstar does.
