Is there any reason we don't hear more about Detroit engines. It seems like all we hear on pushers is Cummins and Cat. Does Detriot cost more, less realiability, mileage? What's the deal?

hey George Quit trying to sell your products on every lisying. First of all no diesel engines will last for a million miles without putting about 5-10 thousand dollars into them . They also need to be driven frequently. Take it from someone who drives one every day and has for 20 years. Oil is oil regardless of what brand .If you change it at the proper intervals you will get good life out of any engine, unless you have a part that fails inside due to manufacturing or assembly. The name on the oil bottle doesnt make it better it just makes it more expensive. I can make plenty of claims about my product and load any test to come out the way I want it.

I don't know about automotive use, however I do know about using detroit diesels with generators. The engine is a 12,000 to 15,000 hour engine. Most other engines that I am familiar with are 20,000 to 30,000 hour engines. Also the detroit engine seems more likely to scatter when near the end, than just not run well. My experence is based on v1671 engines that run at a constant speed of 1800 rpm and attached to 400kw ac generators. Dave

The decision to use one powerplant over another when they know that either will perform equally or close, will boil down to which company has the best sales people and total economic package for the motor coach company. Any of the current diesel engines used for pushers will last over a million miles, far out living the coach in many cases.
