Has anyone had any success in getting the Chevy 454, in motorhome applications, to run cooler? Seems like it can't breath like it should.

The book I mentioned in my previous msg is, Chevorlet Motor Home Chassis Sevice Guide, it was free call 1 800 263-3777. I got mine before they sold thier motor home chassis business. " Installation of the right hand engine splash shield GM PN 15983041 was implemented on 7-15-93 vin321432. In addition it has quiet a bit of info on engine and transmission including recommendations on transmission coolers and engine cooling instructions to RV manufactures. Hope this helps, oh yes I installed an after market oil cooler on my MH has a temp contorl which does not allow oil to circulate through it at low ambient temperature.

Chevy published a book which covers lots of good info on 454 engines. I pull my copy out of my MH and quote some things for you. One thing I did was put a shield on the left side, same as one on the right side, to channel air around the headers. This a recommendation from the Chevy book in fact you could purchase the shield from the Chevy dealers, will give PN. The book also has detailed info on cooling etc. Shield was made standard equipment from 1995 on.

You probably need to put headers on it so some of the heat can get out.

Someone said you should try to get some of the hot air out by installing dryer vent to the rear of the engine compartment to let the air flow out.
