RV refrigerators are the absorption type. That means they do not employ a refrigerant compressor. They are generally cooled with ammonia that is circulated by heat expansion of the fluid. The heat from the frig inside is absorbed by a cooling fin in the frig and transfered to the ammonia where it is dissapated through another exchange process to the outside. Much like your traditional cooling units. (latent heat of condensation) The heat for the ammonia circulation comes from either a propane gas flame or a heating element powered by your 12 volt system or by your 110 volt system.
