My 78 Argosy motorhome refuses to even turn over after long drives on the thruway.Only after its allowed to sit for a while will it turn over and start.I`ve replaced the starter with a rebuilt, put on a heat shield, replaced ground on motor and put on an electric fan,all to no avail.I`ve been told to replace the starter with a new GM original;will this solve the problem?Don-my darn Argosy.

I have found a small case gear reduction starter sold by AC Delco dealers that is a replacement for the standard large case starter. This starter has proven itself on a 2000 mi trip in high heat conditions. Dispite its size it has no problem turning over a big block. If you are unable to find any info, you can email me at iceman427@hotmail.com, and I can give you a GM part #. Good luck!

Big block chevys have that history with starters. Search out an electric motor outfit in your town, they can outfit you with a high quality starter.

I've heard that the new starter fixes most of the problems. I heard someone say there was a company that made a starter for the RV engine and maybe RV parts houses have them.
