George.....don't know if you recall but you set me up with Amsoil. Heber
Springs, AR.
You have a diesel?? We just ordered new DutchStar and I have a choice of
Cat or Cummins.
Frieghtliner feels the Cat is quicker on response? Do you have any ideas
on this???
Oh yes.......Is it possible for a person (me) to change their own oil on
diesel?? What other products should I use from Amsoil on diesels? Lots
of questions.....BUT......Thanks!
Happy New Year! Steve
Steve,
I feel that Cummings is a better engine, but I don't have anything to back up that feeling other than some of the Cat's I have seen oil reports on seem to build a lot of soot and cause problems. The Cummings is a cleaner running engine. You treat the diesel the same as a gas burner as far as owner serviceability. I have a Detroit diesel in my coach and I take an oil sample every 10,000 miles and depending on what the sample tells me I will change the oil filter. I have the Amsoil dual by-pass oil filtration system on it and change those filters every 30,000 miles. I change the oil every 50,000 miles even though the oil can go longer. The fuel filters, I change once a year, as well as the radiator charge filter. Your coach will have an Allison world transmission that comes from the factory with synthetic oil so you need to follow the instructions on the service of that unit. I think it will have you service the fluid early to get all the break-in debris out of it and then you will want to put the Amsoil ATF in it and forget about it for a long time other than changing it's tranny spin on filter every few years.
I grease all the under carriage fittings with the synthetic heavy duty moly-fortified Amsoil grease once a year. Keep an eye on the air filter indicator to know when to service that element. You need to occasionally use the Amsoil diesel fuel concentrate and when driving through the
mountains use the cetane booster. It will really make a difference in performance. In your generator use the same oil as the engine uses. I change it's oil and filter every 250 hours. It's fuel filter gets changed once a year when I do the coaches filters. My generator is a four cylinder Kubota diesel turning a 10 KW generator. I could go longer on the oil change, but it doesn't hold that much oil so I dump it. If you have more questions be sure to ask. Have a happy new year and happy RVing.
