I am sharing this e-mail with anyone that might want to jump in and offer some help.

#1- I had to take NEW Newmar in for some Freightliner warranty and had mentioned I would probably use my own Amsoil on Cat Engine and Allison Trans. I kind'a got a "it won't be good for warranty and Cat has better Oil Filter, etc. etc.
I have looked thru ALL my Cat & Allison books and don't find anything to tell me the correct filters???

Can you PLEASE advise me on these things:
Cat. Engine #3126-E what is Oil Filter #__________ Fuel Filter #_______AirFilter #________

Allison 6 Speed Transmission. They suggested "Transynd"??? What is the correct Fluid and correct Filter # for this Transmission?? It has two Filters??? Do I need to really change out after "breakin" or just drain at the filters and replace them about 6,000 miles?

In general......need to know all Amsoil #s for correct order and ANY suggestions you can give me to maintain this diesel to best performance. Thanks again....and give me all the advice and part # so I can print out and store with my books.

Steve,
Do you have any filter numbers in the owners manual? Can you physically get the numbers and brand of filters that are on the unit now? All this will help us find the correct ones. When I got my coach I had to crawl all over it and I recorded all the numbers on every filter and was able to cross everything to an Amsoil filter, even the radiator charge filter.

George,
I think my owners books are VERY bad. I think they don't want to give you this info. so you'll take in to a dealer?? I looked ALL over them and can't reference ANY parts #'s. I will try to see what;'s on it BUT have NO idea what the Allison Filters would be?? What is the radiator charge filter??

Steve,
Your right about the manufactures. They want to make it as hard as possible for the owner to do any of their own servicing. The radiator charge filter is in the radiator lines. it will look like a remote oil filter. It adds material to help keep the engine water jacket and liners coated so it doesn't pit and develop holes from the vibration caused from combustion of the cylinders. The filters on your unit shouldn't be to hard to find. You will have a primary and a secondary fuel filter, possibly a tranny external spin on ATF filter, an engine oil filter and that should be it. The air filter for your unit will need to be serviced every couple of years so take a look at the indicator that tells you when to change it. You should find the part numbers on the canister that holds it.

This hunt is good for you so you get to know your unit on a personal basis. You can also look for any lines and hoses or electrical wire bundles that don't look right to you in the sense that they may be chaffing or could crack. It is better to find them now than on the highway even though it is under warranty, your vacation or time is not.

When you take it to the dealer for servicing, they aren't going to go through it like you will. They will assume everything is built and assembled right and all they do is fix what you bring them. They are reactionary not proactive. You can't really blame them as they are just going through a check list of inspection items or making repairs to a known problem.
