George,

I’m not sure how this is suppose to work, but here’s my question;

I’ve just changed all of the fluids in my 2001 F-350 Powerstroke over to Red Line Synthetic…now I’m getting conflicting information on the oil change interval, the Ford Dealer where I bought the truck recommended changing the Red Line every 5 thousand miles because of the “unique to Ford” acid build up in the oil.

The Red Line Dealer recommends changing every 10-12 thousand miles, which is why I changed over in the 1st place.

A local racing shop recommends doing an oil test every 5 thousand miles.

What do you recommend?, is there a unique acid build up in the Powerstroke ?

Thanks in advance,

Jeff

Jeff,
Your Ford dealer doesn't have a clue what he is talking about. There is nothing unique to the Ford powerstroke except it's fuel injection system and the importance of using oil that will do a good job combating the build up of foam in the oil. It is important to use a diesel oil that meets the CH-4 requirement though.

I don't know a lot about Redline in diesel applications, but the mileage the Redline dealer is advising you is surely attainable. What I like customers to do is to sell themselves on longer drain intervals. This is easily done by taking an oil sample and sending it to a lab at each oil filter change, usually at 5,000 to 7,500 mile intervals. Once you do this a few times and decide where you want to set your maintenance schedule, then it isn't necessary to spend the money on oil samples. I have one customer that has over 75,000 miles on the same Amsoil in his PSD presently, but he has continued to use oil samples to monitor his situation and also to have proof that his engine is living a normal life without him wasting precious oil every time he turns around. No engine manufacture can or will dispute your oil reports versus oil changes. Documentation is everything.

Why pay Retail for Amsoil synthetic lubricants? For info on preferred customer program for factory direct wholesale prices e-mail george@oilhelp.com or www.oilhelp.com or call 1-800-887-6698.
